SUMMER 2013: Is there anything worth seeing?- 6/19/13
So far this summer, we've been confronted with releases of Iron Man 3, Man Of Steel, This Is The End, Man Of Steel and soon to be this friday Monsters University and World War Z. So, after these releases, is there anything else worth paying the price of a ticket for? Here are the list of films we believe you should and shouldn't check out before FALL 2013 awaits us.
WHAT YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT:
Despicable Me 2 (July 3rd)
WHAT YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT:
Despicable Me 2 (July 3rd)
The first Despicable Me was totally awesome. And, a lot of sequels as of late haven't delivered. But, Despicable Me 2 seems to offer enough comedy, wit, and heart to fulfill it's viewers. Plus, it's gotten some sweet early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, currently at 100% (7 fresh, 0 Rotten). If you liked the first one, be sure to check back here sometime next week for our review. It's worth checking out.
The Lone Ranger (July 3rd)
Also hitting theaters July 3rd is the re-make to the classic "Lone Ranger". If you've seen the trailer and feeling skeptical, keep in mind, it's in the presence of Gore Verbinski (Pirates Of The Caribbean, Rango), and starts Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, two qualified actors. The film has been in production for quite some time and we believe it will be a hit. Check back here for a review next week.
The Way Way Back (July 5th)
Two days later, The Way Way Back hits theaters. Why should you see this? Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell. The Way Way Back may not have the best source material, but the cast is great and could be a good dramedy. We plan on checking it out soon, so be sure to check back here for a review.
Pacific Rim (July 12th)
Guillermo Del Toro. Enough said. This man knows what he's doing. If you don't know what i'm talking about, watch Pan's Labyrinth. Although the concept may appear to be over the top, you can't go wrong with this man. Be sure to check for a review here prior to its release.
Elysium (August 9th)
From Neil Blomkamp (Director of acclaimed District 9), comes Elysium, starring Matt Damon and looks like the film of the summer. After recent success, this is the film we believe will deliver up to standards and satisfy.
The World's End (August 23rd)
Pegg and Frost are back with "The World's End", and Edgar Wright, all comedic geniuses behind "Shaun Of The Dead" and "Hot Fuzz." The first trailer wasn't spectacular, but we trust the trio have this in the bag.
BORDERLINE (DON'T RUSH OUT TO THE THEATER TO SEE THESE)
Red 2 (July 19th)
We're huge fans of the original "Red", but after research and trailer viewings of Red 2, we're not quite sure this one will succeed. For starters, "Red 2" follows in similar footsteps of The Hangover franchise, where a concept can get too abused. Secondly, Red 2 was shot without Morgan Freeman, as he was killed off in the last franchise. Maybe this one will surprise us, we're not sure. Check back for a review.
Turbo (July 17th)
The first trailer for Turbo didn't quite blow us off our seats. In fact, it seems very disappointing. For one, the story and plot are the same as any other DreamWorks plot. Also, the animation looks pretty weak compared to recent animated releases. But, the voice acting is pretty stellar.
White House Down (June 28th)
Channing Tatum and Jaime Foxx sure do provide an excellent case to watch a movie. But, it's left in the hands of Roland Emmerich. While The Patriot and Independence Day weren't half bad, this one fears us. It's over 2 hours and the original trailer wasn't spectacular. But, the cast is pretty impressive, and even with the ridiculous directing style of Emmerich, White House down could work. But, it could also be a complete, awful disaster.
MORE TO COME SOON.

The Rest Of The Summer: At A Glance- 7/27
To all of you movie fans out there! Are you thinking, "What else is there to see this summer?" Don't worry, we're gonna provide you with a catalog for movies worth checking out for the rest of the summer!
8/3 Releases:
Total Recall: Is it worth checking out? Yes.
When Sony announced the remake of the 1988 movie "Total Recall," many people were clueless, and so were we. However, the remake of Total Recall features "Colin Farel," who in our opinion is one of the best action stars out there. In other words, he's good in these types of movies. Secondly, Bryan Cranston from "Breaking Bad" stars in this one as well, proving his acting talent. Even though Len Wiseman has yet to prove himself as a solid director, judging from the trailers and the plot structure, Total Recall looks like it will be a fun, summer action ride. We can't be sure, but Total Recall looks like one worth checking out.
Diary of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days: Is it worth checking out? ......NO
The Diary of a wimpy kid movies are mediocre. The books are bestsellers, and because of that the movies are popular with kids. But here is the first thing about Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, they skipped over the third book in the series, "The Last Straw." WHAT THE HELL? Not in my lifetime have i heard of a series that just plain skips over a book. It's an idiotic move and has many fans enraged. While the franchise sticks with its main actors, it plainly cheated. It may still be popular with kids, but to the rest of you, save your money.
